Abstract
This work didactically describes the evaluation process of some architectures of a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) from a functional perspective. The main objective is to characterize the most suitable application and architecture scenario for smart houses, smart buildings, and finally smart city solutions. The experiments were performed in an indoor environment using at least three development kits. The frequency bands used in this study were 915 MHz and 2.4 GHz. The metrics considered were the Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) and data throughput. The experiments were conducted in real scenarios with the objective of capturing the interaction of wireless communication phenomena with the propagation environment.
