Abstract
The objective was to describe and analyze the use of agrochemicals, health risks and ecological morale of Arequipa farmers. Methods: Mixed approach, applying in-depth interviews, observation and surveys. 338 farmers participated. Variables managed: characteristics of farmers, handling of agrochemicals, health aspects, protection and environmental morale. Results. There are differences in the pesticides used. 50.5%, 56.4% and 42.9% in Zamácola, Tiabaya and Uchumayo use metamidophos 600 g / l (Monitor®) and in Chilina, Sachaca, Uchumayo, Sabandía and Characato they apply metamidophos 500 g / l (Tamarón®) by 50%, 41.7% 42.9%, 48.3% and 40%. 71% use synthetic fertilizers. 42% get constantly sick. They suffer from depression, gastritis, they have mink problems, skin irritations and they report that they know cases of acute poisoning. 60% mention that there are risks in its use. Conclusion: Farmers are increasingly oriented to the use of agrochemicals, even knowing that these affect their health and environment.
