Comprobation of Learning through Item of Evaluation in Subjects developed from the Curriculum of the Professional School of Systems Engineering - UCSM

Abstract

-In the educational processes, the curricular restructuring is a good practice in many universities, however it doesn’t guarantee that the decisions made about it at the time are ideal, given the appropriate times and other factors that are considered to allow that each time a better offer to the market is reached, as an alternative for the selection of students who wish to pursue the professional career; involving the inclusion of information systems trends, the development and progress of information technologies to achieve excellence in professional education. One standing problem is the learning of the theme of logical design of a database that isn’t reflected in the subject of Analysis and Design of Systems (ADS), which is given after the subject of Database (BD) in the Professional School of System Engineering (EPIS) of the Catholic University of Santa María (UCSM). One can appreciate the results that students fail to establish the knowledge, skills, abilities and talents they have acquired by the learning in a previous subject and apply it into another subject, within the area of professional training. Then it’s about the development of a theme scheduled in a subject, that should be useful in another subject that follows it, where the knowledge acquired will be applied, and to corroborate it, it’s addressed through an evaluation item, and thus one can appreciate and analyze the level of theme’s learning achieved by the students; it’s practice can then be extended to other following subjects within the curriculum of the Professional School based on the perceptions, experiences and lessons learned included as a result. In this work the experience in the dictation of the BD subject of both the author and the titular teacher who dictates it is shared, which results will allow to promote and apply actions for the pertinent changes in the corresponding levels, based on the proposed suggestions of improvement for the development of the subject.
