Resumen

Natural disasters are causing serious damages and taking millions of lives in the world every year. Being well prepared for a natural disaster is really important and can assure survival. For that purpose, education plays a key role in training communities and technological tools according to the new learning society are essential. Therefore, this paper presents a gamified learning system to diminish the lack of disaster preparedness teaching children and youth life-sustaining information and skills that can protect them during and after emergencies, for example, assembling emergency kits with the right supplies. The system was developed on Unity platform and was designed in accordance with the National Institute for Civil Defence (INDECI) recommendations. This architecture was tested and analyzed with high school students. We achieved favorable results in learning and motivation, compared to traditional methods, showing that gamification has a promising potential to enhance the awareness of youth about disasters.
